Limestone College is a private, 4-year, coeducational liberal arts college located in Gaffney, which is the county seat of Cherokee County, situated in the US state of South Carolina, a city with a population estimated at a number of nearly 13 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. Limestone College was established in 1845 and it was founded by Dr. Thomas Curtis and his son Dr. William Curtis, being the 1st women's college in the state, as well as one of the first in the nation. The college became fully coeducational in the 1960's, its student enrollment being today of about 55/45 male/female.
Limestone's athletic teams call themselves the Saints and they compete in NCAA Division II. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold, and their mascot is the St. Bernard.
